The first meal of the day is the most important, whether we have it as a breakfast or a brunch. South-Indian breakfasts are one of the best as they are simple as well as satisfactory. Here are 6 South-Indian must have breakfasts which you would love to eat any day.

1. Idli

Idli, made up of a batter of rice and fermented black lentils is one of the best breakfasts to start your day with. It is light, simple as well as yummy. It is usually served with chutney and sambar.

2. Dosa

Dosa is another tempting South-Indian dish that is prepared from rice and black lentils. Dosa is available in various types such as plain dosa, masala dosa, onion dosa, egg dosa, etc. It is totally fulfilling and will surely activate your taste buds.

3. Uttapam

Uttapam, also known as Uthappa is prepared from the same ingredient as dosa. While dosa is crisp and thin, Uttapam is a thick pancake with toppings of onion, chilly, tomato, capsicum, etc. It can be considered as an Indian version of pizza 😉

4. Vada

Vada is prepared from a thick batter of fermented black gram, mixed with onion, chilies, cumin seeds, and curry leaves. It is either consumed in crispy form with chutney or is dipped in sambar (which is also known as sambar vada).

5. Pongal

Pongal is a very popular breakfast in south India which is prepared from rice. It is of two types – sakarai pongal and ven pongal. The sakarai pongal is sweet which is made up of milk, jaggery and rice while the ven pongal is spicy.

6. Khichdi

Khichdi is made up of rice and lentils(dal). It is very tasty and can serve as a sumptuous meal. While Khichdi is a famous breakfast in South India, it is also popular in different forms in many other states of India.
