Building healthy bones is very important. Bones perform many roles in the body such as providing structure, protecting organs, anchoring muscles and storing calcium. Maintaining strong bones as you age can reduce the risk of osteoporosis and related complications, such as vertebral compression fractures with spinal pain. During childhood, adolescence, and early adulthood, minerals form in your bones. By age 30, your bone mass has reached its peak.
